A recent telephone scam involves a caller telling the victim that if they don’t provide a credit card number or other form of payment, their electric service will be cut off. Gulf Power said in a media release that they have received an escalating number of calls about the scam in the past week. The release said real employees never call a customer seeking personal information, including credit card numbers, and never ask for money at the customer’s residence. Any customer questioning the identity of a person representing the power company is encouraged to call 1-800-225-5797.
